Hoosiers Come Up Short at No. 33 Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Indiana men's tennis (13-12) concluded its regular season with a 4-3 loss to the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Sunday at the Baseline Tennis Center. The Hoosiers picked up the doubles point and two singles matches in the loss.
IU took the doubles point for the third time in the last four matches. Juniors Raheel Manji and Keivon Tabrizi won at the top spot. After the Gophers evened up doubles with a win at the three spot, sophomore Antonio Cembellin and Stefan Lugonjic went to a tiebreaker and won 7-3 to secure the point.
In singles, the Hoosiers grabbed wins at the four and five spots. Freshman Bennett Crane gave Indiana a 2-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win.
The Gophers went on to win the next four matches. Tied 2-2, sophomore Oliver Sec rallied to tie the match at the six spot. In the third set, the Gophers prevailed, taking a 3-2 lead.
At the top spot, Manji won the first set but lost a second set tiebreaker and fell in the match.
The second singles win for the Hoosiers came at the four spot when Tabrizi took his match to three sets and ended up winning 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.
Next up, the Hoosiers will go to West Lafayette, Ind. for the Big Ten Tournament at the Schwartz Tennis Center. Indiana will take on Minnesota in the first match of the tournament on Thursday, April 27 at 9 AM.
