Hoosiers In The Lead After First Day Of IU Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Junior Alix Kong shot 1-under par as Indiana has all five players in the top 20 and lead the field on day one of the IU Invitational on Saturday at the IU Golf Course.
Kong shot 2-under to open up the first 36 holes (70) before shooting 1-over to wrap up the day with a 143. She sits one back of the tournament leader – Western Michigan's Anna Wilcoxson (142). Sophomore Erin Harper is in third as she finished with a 2-over performance (146) while senior Theresa Ann Jedra is fourth just two strokes behind Harper (148) in fourth.
In her first appearance in the top five for Indiana, freshman Emma Fisher sits in a tie for 13th overall with a 152. Rounding out the IU leaderboard was senior Ana Sanjuan who sits just one stroke back of Fisher in a tie for 14th overall (153).
As a team, Indiana leads the field by nine strokes, with Western Michigan in second (598), Toledo in third (603) and Eastern Michigan (619) in fourth.
IU's entire roster saw action on Saturday, as redshirt freshman Carolina Garrett leads the individual field in a tie for 20th as she combined for a 155 in the opening two rounds. Freshman Elisa Pierre added a tied for 28th finish (158) while junior Pear Siriko (160, T31st) and senior Paige Crafton (178, 53rd) also saw action in the rounds.
The final round of 18 holes of the IU Invitational kicks off tomorrow at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
