Hoosiers Win Tenth Straight to Open Classic

Bloomington, Ind. – Behind a season best hitting percentage of .452, the Indiana volleyball team improved to 10-0 on the season with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-17) win over UNLV on Friday to open competition in the Hoosier Classic.
Senior Jessica Leish provided the Hoosiers with great firepower as she tallied 11 kills on 13 attempts with no errors for an individual hitting percentage of .846.
Junior Samantha Fogg recorded 11 digs and three aces for the Hoosiers and sophomore libero Meaghan Koors had 13 digs. Sophomore setter Victoria Brisack paced the offensive attack with 42 assists.
Sophomore Deyshia Lofton exceled offensively and defensively with seven kills and five blocks.
Indiana seemed to get better as the match went along. After hitting .400 in the first set and taking it 25-18, the Hoosiers elevated that number to .500 in the second set. In the second frame the defense picked up as well as they limited UNLV to a negative .115 hitting percentage and forced the Rebels into 10 attack errors.
Brisack ended the first set with a kill to give the Hoosiers a 25-18 set two win and a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set the Hoosiers tallied their most kills in a set with 19 on 34 attempts with three errors.
With the scored tied 7-7 in the third set, the Hoosiers broke it open with a 6-0 run to go up 13-7. Leish had kills for three of the six points during the run.
The Hoosiers pushed that lead to 15-8, and never led by fewer than six points the rest of the way.
Sophomore Ally Badowski came in and gave the Hoosiers two kills, which included the kill on match point to give Indiana the victory.
The Hoosiers continue play in the tournament with two matches tomorrow. Indiana will take on Samford at 12:00 p.m. and Florida Gulf Coast at 7:00 p.m.
