Hoosiers Drop Match to Bulldogs

Bloomington, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball team lost its first match of the season, in five sets (22-25, 25-19, 25-15, 19-25, 15-17) to Samford on Saturday in their second match of the Hoosier Classic.
Senior Elizabeth Asdell led the Hoosiers (10-1) with 18 kills and Kendall Beerman (16) and Deyshia Lofton (15) also posted double-digit kills. Lofton hit .700 for the match and added seven blocks.
Meaghan Koors led the Hoosiers with 22 digs and Victoria Brisack recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 57 assists and 12 digs. Beerman picked up a double-double with her 16 kills and 13 digs.
After dropping the first set, 25-22, the Hoosiers came back to win the next two sets against Samford and take a 2-1 lead in the match.
In the fourth set Samford picked up their offensive attack with 15 kills in the set and the Hoosiers made five attack errors. Samford won the fourth set, 25-19.
The fifth set was back and forth with 11 ties and four lead changes. Samford took control late in the set and went up 12-8.
The Hoosiers responded with a 5-0 run to take a 13-12 lead, but ultimately Samford battled back to earn a 17-15 win and secure the match victory.
The Hoosiers will close out their non-conference schedule tonight at 7:00 p.m. against Florida Gulf Coast.
