Indiana Women’s Golf Opens 2017-18 at Ptarmigan Ram Classic and Cardinal Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Women's Golf will open up the 2017-18 season on Sunday when it tees off at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic and Monday at the Cardinal Classic. The Hoosiers will send a team of five out to Colorado for the 54-hole event from Sunday through Tuesday at the Ptarmigan Country Club. Two individuals will also compete at the Cardinal Classic in Muncie on Monday and Tuesday at The Players Club in Yorktown, Ind.

TOP RETURNERS
Indiana returns three of its top four stroke averages from last season including junior Erin Harper and senior Alix Kong. Harper led Indiana last season with a 75.00 stroke average, playing in 23 rounds last season and earning the team's highest finish at the Big Ten Championships (T25th, 228). Kong was third in average last season, competing in 26 rounds with a 75.38. Freshman Elisa Pierre was fourth for IU last season with 23 rounds played and a 77.38 stroke average.
STARTING IN COLORADO, AGAIN
The Hoosiers start off their season much like they started the last one, at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic. Last season, IU came away with a tied for seventh finish in the event including a pair of top 11 finishes in Ana Sanjuan (T7th) and Alix Kong (T11th). The team compiled a three-round score of 899 including a pair of under 300s in the first and final rounds.
IU WELCOMES NEWCOMERS
Indiana's lineup will get a dose of newcomers with all two newcomers playing in this weekend's event as Mary Parsons will play in the No. 1 spot to kick off her IU career. Freshman Angela Aung will also get her first collegiate action playing in the fourth spot at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Hoosiers will take part in the Coeur d'Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational hosted by Gonzaga. The two-day event takes place Sept. 26-27 at the Coeur d'Alene Resort in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
