Hoosiers Sweep First XC Meet

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University cross country team swept the IU Open earlier this morning. The women's team defeated Minnesota and Ohio State with a low-score of 40 points. The Gophers finished second with 51 points. The men's team dominated the race, scoring 21 points, just six points over a perfect score. Once again, Minnesota was second with 50 points.
The men's team handled business and claimed the top four spots in the standings. Ben Veatch led the way, taking first with an 8k time of 24:54. Redshirt sophomore Kyle Mau turned in a runner-up finish. Kyle Burks claimed the third spot. Cooper Williams, a redshirt freshman, took fourth in his first official cross country race in the cream and crimson. Rounding out the scoring for Indiana was Joe Murphy who finished 11th overall.
Maggie Allen was the top female finisher, crossing as the runner-up in the 5k. Her time of 17:41 edged out senior Brenna Calder for second. Calder finished third. Lexa Barrott, in eighth. Haley Harris took ninth place, while twin sister Kelsey Harris rounded out the scoring with a 18th place effort.
