Hoosiers Fall Against Maryland

Bloomington, Ind. – Redshirt sophomore Kendall Beerman notched her ninth straight game with double-digit kills with 12, but the Indiana volleyball team came up short in a three set (17-25, 19-25, 24-26) loss to Maryland on Saturday at University Gym.
Sophomore Victoria Brisack led the Hoosiers with 26 assists and sophomore Meaghan Koors tallied 10 digs. Sophomore Deyshia Lofton led the Hoosiers in blocks with four.
The Hoosiers (11-3, 0-2 Big Ten) got out to a slow start as they hit .087 in the first set compared to Maryland (12-2, 1-1 Big Ten), who hit .375.
Maryland continued the efficient offensive attack in the second set as they hit .400 and went up 2-0 in the match.
The Hoosiers trailed 12-9 in set three, but responded with an emphatic 10-2 run to seize a 19-14 lead.
Beerman and sophomore Hayden Huybers combined for nine of the Hoosiers 12 kills in the set, but Maryland came back, as they scored eight of the next 11 points to tie the score, 22-22.
With the score tied 24-24, Maryland connected on a kill and the next play got a block to win the third set 26-24 and win the match.
Up next the Hoosiers travel to West Lafayette for a match against Purdue on Wednesday Sept. 27 and are back at home against the Boilermakers on Saturday Sept. 30 in a 7:00 p.m. start.
