
Hoosiers Fall at No. 19 Purdue

West Lafayette, Ind. – Redshirt sophomore Kendall Beerman led the Hoosiers with eight kills and nine digs, but the Indiana volleyball team came up short on the road in a 3-0 (16-25, 14-25, 15-25) loss at No. 19 Purdue on Wednesday.
Sophomore setter Victoria Brisack moved closer to the milestone of 1,000 career assists. With her team-leading 15 assists in the match Brisack now has 990 for her career.
Sophomore middle blocker Hayden Huybers presented a challenge for Purdue with six kills on eight attempts with one error for a .625 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Deyshia Lofton contributed with five kills, three digs and two blocks.
After falling behind 13-6 in the first set, the Hoosiers (11-4, 0-3) scored the next four points on kills from Beerman, Lofton and junior Elizabeth Asdell. Purdue (12-2, 2-1) hit .536 in the opening set and scored six of the next seven points to extend the lead to 19-11. The Boilermakers won the opening set, 25-16.
In the second set Purdue continued an efficient offensive attack with 16 kills and two errors for a .636 hitting percentage. Purdue won set two, 25-14 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, Purdue jumped out to a 5-1 lead and the Hoosiers called a timeout down 9-2. Purdue led by as many as nine at 19-10, but the Hoosiers trimmed the lead to six at 20-14. Purdue scored five of the next six points to win the set and the match.
Freshman setter Nitzan Lasry got her first playing opportunity and tallied 13 assists, two digs and one ace.
Up next the Hoosiers battle Purdue again, this time in Bloomington, on Saturday Sept. 30 at 7:00 p.m.
