Game Notes: Indiana at No. 4 Penn State

Setting The Scene
• Indiana (2-1, 0-1 B1G East) travels to No. 4/4 Penn State (4-0, 1-0 B1G East) for its first conference road game of 2017 on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Beaver Stadium (106,572; Natural Grass). Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. EDT and BTN will broadcast the game.
• IU coaches will wear Coach to Cure MD patches to raise awareness for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Fans are encouraged to donate online at www.CoachtoCureMD.org or donate $5 by texting CURE to 90999.
The Coaches
• Tom Allen made his debut as Indiana head coach at the 2016 Foster Farms Bowl. He was named IU's 29th head coach on Dec. 1, 2016. The New Castle, Ind., native joined the Hoosiers as associate head coach/defense on Jan. 15, 2016. A 2016 Broyles Award nominee, Allen engineered one of the top defensive turnarounds in the country, as Indiana improved substantially in every major statistical category. (full bio on page 16)
• James Franklin is 29-15 (.659) in his fourth season at Penn State. Franklin served as Vanderbilt head coach (2011-13) and carries an overall record of 53-30 (.639).
News & Notes
• For the second straight game, J-Shun Harris II earned B1G Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
• The redshirt junior took a punt return back for a TD (70 yards) for the second consecutive contest, joining Rob Turner (1990) as the only players in program history to return a punt for a score in back-to-back games.
• Harris shares the Indiana record for most punt returns for a touchdown in a season with two.
• The Fishers, Ind., native leads the Big Ten and is third nationally with 26.1 yards per return, while his two TDs also lead the league (T-2nd nationally).
• Morgan Ellison collected Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors after he rushed for 186 yards on 25 carries (7.4 average) with two scores.
• Ellison recorded the fourth-most rushing yards for an IU true freshman in a game and is the 11th true freshman in program history to reach the century mark.
• His 85.7 yards per game stand third among true freshmen running backs in the Big Ten and fourth nationally.
• The Hoosiers reached the end zone offensively, defensively and on special teams against Georgia Southern.
• Indiana's defense forced three takeaways (fumbles) and turned them into 21 points.
• IU shares third nationally averaging 7.0 three-and-outs per game.
• The Hoosiers eclipsed 50 points for the first time since Nov. 28, 2015, (54 at Purdue) and ran for 282 yards.
• Safety Tony Fields and tight end Ian Thomas were added to the Senior Bowl Watch List. The duo joined cornerback Rashard Fant, quarterback Richard Lagow and linebacker Tegray Scales.
