Hoosiers Drop Match Against No. 19 Purdue

Bloomington, Ind. – Redshirt Sophomore Kendall Beerman tallied double-digit kills for the 10th time in 11 matches with 10, but the Indiana volleyball team fell at home against No. 19 Purdue in three sets (23-25, 13-25, 19-25) on Saturday at University Gym.
Sophomore Victoria Brisack tallied 27 assists, which included a career milestone as she passed 1,000 career assists and now has 1,017 assists for her career.
The Hoosiers played in front of a sell-out crowd of 1,724 inside University Gym.
The Hoosiers (11-5, 0-4) fell behind 15-11 in the first set, but used a 4-0 run, which included a kill by sophomore Ally Badowski and a block by sophomore Hayden Huybers, to tie the set, 15-15.
The opening set had 13 ties, but at 18-18 back-to-back kills by sophomore Deyshia Lofton put Indiana up 20-18. After an Indiana service error, Purdue (13-2, 3-1) scored two more points to take a 21-20 lead. The Boilermakers pushed that lead to 23-21, but Indiana responded a kill from Beerman and a Purdue attack error to knot it at 23-23. Purdue converted the final two points on a kill and an Indiana attack error to win the set, 25-23.
After struggling in the second set, the Hoosiers found their rhythm in set three as they hit .310 with 13 kills. Junior captain Elizabeth Asdell tallied five kills and hit .500 in the third set, but Purdue got out to a 13-6 lead.
The Hoosiers showed resiliency as they competed and battled back to close the gap to three at 15-12 and when Purdue went up 19-14 the Hoosiers again narrowed the deficit to three at 22-19. The Boilermakers scored the final three points of the set to win the match.
Up next Indiana will travel to Northwestern and Illinois for matches on Friday Oct. 6 and Saturday Oct. 7. The next home match is Wednesday Oct. 11 against Iowa.
