Evansville Tournament Next for Hoosiers

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball team will put its 6-0 record on the line, when they travel to Evansville this week for the Dunn Hospitality INVITATIONAL, hosted by the University of Evansville.
In addition to Indiana and Evansville, the tournament also includes UT-Martin and UAB.

George Washington Invitational
The Hoosiers traveled to Washington, D.C., for their second pre-season tournament and went up against host George Washing, Hofstra and LIU-Brooklyn. Sophomore Meaghan Koors was named MVP of the tournament and Hayden Huybers and Bayli Lebo were also named to the All-Tournament Team. Against George Washington on Friday Sept. 1, Koors tied an Indiana program record for digs in a three-set match with 25.
Indiana Invitational
The Hoosiers started the season with three wins and captured the Indiana Invitational title for the sixth straight season. The team secured victories over Ball State, DePaul and Indiana State during the tournament. Sophomore Deyshia Lofton was named the MVP of the tournament and fellow sophomores Hayden Huybers and Victoria Brisack were selected to the All-Tournament team. Lofton totaled 25 kills and 12 blocks for the tournament, including a 13-kill performance with a .588 hitting percentage against DePaul.
2016 in Review
The Hoosiers are coming off their best season since 2010 as they finished 17-16 overall in the 2016 season. The team started 9-0 for the fourth time in school history and went 11-2 in non-conference play. The Big Ten slate was highlighted by wins over No. 13 Michigan and No. 22 Ohio State. In all, the Hoosiers beat four teams that made the NCAA Tournament.
The 2017 Roster
With the graduation of five seniors there will be many new faces on the 2017 roster. The team includes 11 freshmen and sophomores and six newcomers. In addition to the five freshmen, the Hoosiers have also added graduate student Kristen Ostach. Ostach completed her undergraduate education at Fordham and was the team captain in her senior year.
Broadcasting of the Tournament
All three matches will feature online radio broadcasts by IU volleyball broadcaster Tyler Sorg. The Friday match against Evansville will be streamed on ESPN3.
Back at Home
The Hoosiers return to University Gym to host the Hoosier Classic, Sept. 15-16. They will take on UNLV, Samford and Florida Gulf Coast during the tournament.
