BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana men's tennis team kicked off its season with a win against Ball State, 6-1 and a 7-0 victory versus Eastern Illinois on Monday inside the IU Tennis Center. The Hoosiers are 2-0 for the second year in a row.
After losing the doubles point to the Cardinals in the first match of the day, IU responded with first set singles win at all positions. Five of six spots closed out their matches with straight set wins, locking up the Hoosiers first win of 2018.
Freshman Brandon Lam won a dual play match for the first time in his career, withstanding a third set tiebreaker, 14-12.
In the later match against the Panthers, doubles came up with three wins. The top two spots in the lineup looked the same but in third spot sophomores Payam Ahmadi and Zac Brodney saw action and claimed a 6-1 win.
To close out a 2-0 day in singles, senior Raheel Manji, junior Antonio Cembellin, sophomore Bennett Crane, and Lam won their matches in straight sets.
