THAT SCHEDULE IS TOUGH
The Hoosiers will meet their sixth ranked team this season when it travels to No. 14 Maryland. They are in the midst of a three-game swing that features ranked opponents in No. 23 Michigan, No. 10 Ohio State and the Terps on Tuesday. IU has faced three of those four opponents on the road. Currently, Indiana has played the fourth toughest schedule in the NCAA this season which is leading the Big Ten and just behind UConn, Notre Dame and Oklahoma.
PENN PUTS UP POINTS
Freshman guard Jaelynn Penn scored her second game of her career with 20 or more points against No. 10 Ohio State on Saturday. Penn dropped a team-high 20 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards. It marked the seventh game in double digits for the Louisville, Ky. native, who is averaging 9.5 points and 5.3 rebounds in her freshman season. She ranks sixth in points per game amongst all Big Ten freshmen, third in steals (1.2), fourth in rebounding and 10th in assists (2.4).
YEANEY ADDS SPARK
Freshman guard Bendu Yeaney provided a spark for the Hoosiers Wednesday night against No. 23 Michigan. She scored a career-high 18 points and tied Tyra Buss to lead the Hoosiers in scoring in the loss. It marked her seventh game in double figures this season as she also tied a career-high four assists against the Wolverines and set a career-high four assists.
BUSS SETS SCORING RECORD
Senior guard Tyra Buss broke the Indiana Women's Basketball record for points scored on Jan. 3 at Penn State. She eclipsed former record holder Denise Jackson's 1,917 points set in 1983-84 with her game-high 27 points against the Lady Lions and has now scored 1,978 career points. She ranks eighth amongst all-time players at Indiana (men's and women's) and is on pace to become the sixth player ever to wear an Indiana jersey to score over 2,000 points.
MORE RECORDS TO BREAK
With records set in points scored, free throws made and free throws attempted, Buss will set her sights on the steals (255) and assists (485) records at Indiana. Currently, Buss ranks second in both of those categories.
