Jan. 31, 1981 – In the first-ever match-up between Bob Knight and Gene Keady, the unranked Hoosiers prevailed, 69-61, at Assembly Hall. The win moved Indiana to 13-7 on the year, while Purdue continued to struggle following its 1980 Final Four run. Ultimately, Indiana would win 13 of its final 15 games and go on to win the program's fourth NCAA Championship.
Jan. 31, 1987 – For the first time in the Indiana-Purdue series history, the two teams met with both teams ranked in the top-10 (they were tied at No. 4 in the AP poll). Steve Alford scored 31 points to lead IU to an 88-77 win. The two teams would go on to tie for the Big Ten regular season title and the Hoosiers ultimately claimed their fifth national title.
Jan. 31, 2007 – A.J. Ratliff scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half to lead No. 22 Indiana to a 71-66 win over No. 2 Wisconsin, bringing an end to Wisconsin's 17-game winning streak. D.J. White chipped in 16 points, while Bo Ryan's Badgers were led by Alando Tucker's game-high 23.

Don Padgett won golf letters in 1969, 1970 and 1971. He earned national recognition after being named second team All-American in 1969 and receiving honorable mention All-American honors in 1970. Padgett placed first at the Big Ten Championship in 1969 and qualified for the 1969 NCAA Tournament. In 1970, Padgett helped the Hoosiers' team claim the Big Ten title and went on to tie for 28th individually at the NCAAs. After winning the Big Ten Individual Championship, Padgett was an All-Big Ten selection in 1969. He led the team in scoring average in 1968-69 and was second on the team with in 1969-70. Post-collegiately, Don played in the PGA tour for a short time before becoming the Director of Golf at Firestone County Club, and later the President of Pinehurst Resorts. Don Padgett was inducted into Indiana Golf Hall of Fame in 1989.

Thomas, who was the game's MVP in 1984 and 1986, is one of only 12 players to win All-Star Game MVP multiple times (Bob Cousy, Bob Pettit, Oscar Robertson, Julius Erving, Magic Johnson, Karl Malone, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, Allen Iverson, Kobe Bryant, Russell Westbrook).
