Hoosiers Capture a Pair of Fifth Place Finishes at NCAA Great Lakes Regionals

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.— Indiana Cross Country competed at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday that saw the men and women both notch fifth place finishes. Junior Kyle Mau punched his individual ticket to NCAA Nationals with a fourth-place finish during the meet.
Wisconsin's Alicia Monson took home the individual Great Lake Regional champion title on Friday afternoon as the team took second with 82 points, automatically qualifying them for the national meet. Also qualifying was Big Ten Champions Michigan who notched a first place finish in the regional with 46 points. Michigan State (89), Notre Dame (100), and Indiana (137) completed the top five, respectively.
Maggie Allen led the way for the Hoosiers in the women's 6K as she placed eighth overall with a time of 20:44.3 to garner All-Region honors. Also, earning All-Region was Katherine Receveur who was the second Hoosier and 19th overall runner to cross the finish line (20:56.6). Lexa Barrott finished in a time of 21:08.0 to take 30th. Finishing close behind, Haley Harris notched a time of 21:14.4 to take 33rd overall. Bailey Hertenstein was the 5th runner in an Indiana uniform to cross the finish line in a time of 21:33.2. Hannah Stoffel (21:53.0) and Kelsey Harris (22:10.3) rounded out the Hoosier lineup by placing 57th and 78th, respectively.
Jaret Carpenter of Purdue was the individual Great Lakes Region champion, clocking a time of 31:09.6. Wisconsin (49) and Notre Dame (91) secured their automatic bids to nationals as they took first and second in the team competition. Three Big Ten teams rounded out the top five as Michigan (109), Purdue (121), and Indiana (124) finished 3-4-5.
In the men's 10K, junior Kyle Mau finished fourth overall in a time of 31:12.7 to secure his individual spot at Nationals. Dustin Horter earned All-Region with a 19th place finish while notching time of 31:34.1. Bryce Millar was the next Hoosier to cross the finish line in a time of 31:49.9 to secure 30th overall. Joe Murphy finished four spots later in 34th as he snagged a time of 31:51.6. Five seconds separated Daniel Michalski (31:55.4) and Arjun Jha (32:00.6) who placed 37th and 40th overall, respectively. Finishing out the field for Indiana was freshman Reese Jordan who clocked 32:20.4 and placed 59th.
Both teams will wait until Saturday Nov. 10 to see if they will compete in the national meet. The national meet will be held on Nov. 17 in Madison, Wisc. The women's 6K is set for 11:45 EST with the men's 10K will follow.
