No. 2 Indiana Advances Past Maryland to Big Ten Tournament Championship

WESTFIELD, Ind. – The No. 2-ranked Indiana University men's soccer team will play in Sunday's Big Ten Tournament Championship after advancing past Maryland in a penalty kick shootout on Friday at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind.
The Hoosiers (16-2-1) played the Terrapins (8-6-4) to a 1-1 draw after regulation and two scoreless overtime periods. IU then earned the berth to Sunday's final, 4-3, in the penalty kick shootout.
KEY MOMENTS
• In the 61st minute, Andrew Gutman displayed an elite level of skill, scoring his 10th goal of the season on a tremendous run that started nearly at midfield. The senior dribbled through the left-side of the Maryland defense and beat the keeper to the far post from three yards out.
• Maryland's Ben Di Rosa found the equalizer in the 72nd minute, forcing the match in to overtime.
• In the extra sessions, IU out-shot Maryland, 8-1, but the Hoosiers weren't able to find a match-winner.
• Sophomore GK Trey Muse was huge for Indiana in the penalty kick shootout, making a pair of saves. Converting for the Hoosiers were Francesco Moore, Austin Panchot, Jeremiah Gutjahr and Cory Thomas.

• With the victory, Indiana earns a berth to the team's 18th Big Ten Tournament Championship in program history and the fourth for the team in the last six years.
• IU has won 12 Big Ten Tournament titles in school history, with the last coming in 2013.
• The Hoosiers are 11-3-2 all-time in Big Ten Tournament Championship matches. IU and Wisconsin were declared co-champions in 1995 after the championship match was cancelled.
• The Hoosiers are unbeaten in the team's last 38 matches against Big Ten opponents, posting a record of 24-0-14. Indiana's last loss to a league foe was at Ohio State on Oct. 10, 2015.
• IU is unbeaten in the team's last eight matches. In that streak, IU has posted five shutouts and has out-scored the team's opponents, 12-3.
• With the draw, Indiana's record in Big Ten Tournament matches moves to 35-10-10.
