THE COACHES
Indiana Coach Archie Miller is in his second season of guiding the Cream and Crimson. He has a 25-17 record and 11-9 ledger in the Big Ten since taking over the Hoosiers. He is 164-80 in 7-plus years as a head coach, which includes 6 years at the University of Dayton. His Flyer teams made NCAA Tournament appearances in each of his last four seasons, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 2014. Central Arkansas is coached by Russ Pennell who is in his fifth season with the Bears. The former interim coach at Arizona, Pennell's team has played at Missouri, Pitt, St. Louis, Louisville and New Mexico already this season.
NEWS & NOTES
IU is rated 22nd in the latest AP poll and 21st in the NET.
The Hoosiers have five Top 50 wins according to KenPom--Butler (29), Marquette (36), Louisville (39), Penn State (43) and Northwestern (47). Their only losses came on the road at Duke (1) and Arkansas (50). With three true road tests, IU is one of just nine major conference teams to have already played 3 or more true road games. Colorado, Michigan State, North Carolina, Purdue, Rutgers, Stanford and Wisconsin have played 3, while Rutgers has played 4.
Senior forward Juwan Morgan and freshman guard Romeo Langford were selected to the 10-member Preseason All-Big Ten team. Both are among 50 players listed as candidates for the 2019 Naismith Trophy and Wooden Award and Langford is among 20 players on the NABC Player of the Year watch list. Langford was named third-team Preseason All-American by ESPN.com and CBSSports.com and earned fourth-team honors from WatchStadium.com. Langford has twice already been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week. Morgan also is up for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award.
Morgan is now 51st on the school's all-time scoring list after his record-setting 35-point effort against Butler, which earned him Big Ten Player of the Week honors and USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week accolades. He has scored 1,020 career points. Langford's 20-point effort in his first Big Ten game is the most by an IU true freshman in their first conference outing since Eric Gordon had 25 in his first B1G contest at Iowa in 2008. He is the only Hoosier to score in double digits every game and has twice been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Coach Archie Miller's squad is the top shooting team in the Big Ten, and 4th in the country, making 51.5% of its shots.
IU's 4 straight wins by a combined 8 points is the lowest margin of victory in school history for a 4-game winning streak.
MORGAN NAMED BIG TEN PLAYER OF THE WEEK AND USBWA NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
After leading IU to a 71-68 win over Butler in the Crossroads Classic, senior Juwan Morgan was named Big Ten Conference Player of the Week and the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week by the United States Basketball Writers Association of America (USBWA). He received similar honors a season ago after guiding IU to a win over Notre Dame in the same event.
ODDS AND TRENDS
IU is now 17-2 in two seasons under Archie Miller when holding an opponent under 70 points.
IU is 8-2 in the Miller Era when shooting 40% or better from three-point range.
