Berger’s Career Night Helps Indiana To Win Over Loyola Marymount At Puerto Rico Classic

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico – Three Hoosiers scored in double figures as Indiana Women's Basketball opened up the Puerto Rico Classic with a win over Loyola Marymount, 67-43. The Hoosiers improved to 10-0 with the win.
KEY MOMENTS
- The game was knotted at 12-all after the first quarter as Indiana lit up in the second quarter.
- Behind eight points from sophomore guard Bendu Yeaney, the Hoosiers would go on a 16-2 run in the frame and take its largest lead of the half, up 28-14. IU held the Lions (7-3) to just nine points in the second and as it would lead 29-21 at halftime. Yeaney led the way at the break with her eight points along with seven each from Berger and redshirt junior Brenna Wise.
- After trading buckets to open the third quarter, Loyola Marymount would attempt to stage its own comeback as it came within two, 35-33, with 3:47 remaining. But back-to-back buckets from redshirt junior guard Ali Patberg and Berger pushed the lead back up to six.
- With help at the line and a triple by Berger, the Hoosiers would regain their double-digit lead and take a 49-36 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
- Indiana would close out the game by shooting 57.1 percent from the floor (8-for-14) in the fourth quarter while holding LMU to just two field goals in the final 10 minutes of play.
NOTABLE
- Freshman guard Grace Berger led the way as she scored a career and game-high 15 points. The Louisville, Ky. Native went 6-for-8 from the field adding two assists and three rebounds.
- She was one three players in double figures as sophomore guard Bendu Yeaney (12 points) and redshirt junior guard Ali Patberg (10 points).
- Patberg also dished out four assists and had three steals along with three rebounds in the effort.
- IU shot 48 percent in the win, (24-for-50).
- The Hoosiers shot 76.2 percent from the free throw line (16-for-21), as got to the line 21 times, the seventh time it has taken 20 trips or more to the line this season.
- With the win, Indiana improves to 10-0 for the sixth time in program history and continues on its best start since it opened up the 2013-14 season 14-0.
- They also extend the nation's longest active win streak at 16 games.
- Wednesday's game marked the first time the Hoosiers have played in nine days, last facing Missouri State in Bloomington on Dec. 9.
- Indiana improves to 2-0 in the series with the Lions, who met for the first time since 1996.
