Hoosiers Edged by Tennessee, 4-3

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis team battled, but came up short against Tennessee, 4-3, on Sunday at the IU Tennis Center.
"Tennessee is a strong team and we competed really well," IU head coach Ramiro Azcui said. "We played at a high level and we are going to continue to get better as the season goes on."
The Hoosiers (8-1) started strong with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 doubles 6-4 win by Olga Zavarotnaya and Natalie Whalen gave Indiana the point and a 1-0 lead in the overall match.
Jelly Bozovic and Caitlin Bernard won their doubles match to improve their record to 6-0 on the season in dual match play.
Tennessee won three singles matches to go up 3-1, but Caitlin Bernard won on a tie breaker to put the Hoosiers within one at 3-2.
The Volunteers put the match away with a win at No. 6 singles, but Michelle McKamey battled all the way to the end in a close three-set match.
Madison Appel stayed perfect with a 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles for the Hoosiers. Appel is 7-0 in singles in dual match play this season.
Up next the Hoosiers travel to South Bend, Ind., where they will take on Notre Dame and Wright State on Sunday Feb. 18.
