Hoosiers Split Doubleheader in South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis narrowly was defeated 4-3 against Notre Dame before picking up a 4-0 win against Wright State on Sunday at Notre Dame.
The Hoosiers (9-2) continued their strong play in doubles as they earned the doubles point for the ninth time in 10 matches to take a 1-0 lead against the Irish.
With doubles against Wright State the Hoosiers have won the doubles point in 10 of their 11 matches and have an overall record of 23-5 in doubles in dual match play this season.
Four of the six singles matches against Notre Dame went to three sets. The Hoosiers got their first singles point from Caitlin Bernard, but the Irish won three of the first four singles matches to take a 3-2 lead in the match.
Madison Appel maintained her perfect singles record in dual match play (8-0) and evened the match at 3-3 with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles.
The final singles match went to No. 4 singles where Xiwei Cai held a 5-1 lead in the third set, but Cameron Corse came back to win the set and clinch the match for the Irish.
The Hoosiers rebounded for a 4-0 win against Wright State as they won the doubles point with 6-1 and 6-2 wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Madison Appel and Michelle McKamey won both of their doubles matches on the day to improve to 8-2 in doubles in dual match play. Caitlin Bernard won both of her singles matches to improve her singles record to 10-1 in dual match play.
Caitlin Bernard, Jelly Bozovic and Olga Zavarotnaya got wins for the Hoosiers in singles.
Up next the Hoosiers will go on the road next week to take on Cornell on Feb. 23 and battle Princeton on Feb. 25. The Hoosiers are next home on March 3 to take on Western Kentucky and Miami University.
