Hoosiers Qualify 15 for Thursday Night Finals at Big Ten Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 9-ranked Indiana University women's swimming and diving team will bring back 15 swimmers and divers for the evening finals on Thursday night at the 2018 Women's Big Ten Championships at the McCorkle Aquatic Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Among the 15 qualifiers, IU will have six in Championship Finals, two in B Finals and seven in C Finals. IU enters Thursday night in first place with a total of 118 points.
500 Freestyle
The Hoosiers will bring back four swimmers for tonight's finals of the 500 freestyle, including two in the Championship Final.
Kennedy Goss led the way for IU, touching the wall with a NCAA B cut time of 4:38.48 to qualify third overall for the A Final. Cassy Jernberg qualified sixth overall for the Championship Final with a personal-best and NCAA B cut of 4:39.83 that ranks her as the seventh-best performer in the event in IU history.
Delaney Barnard qualified for the C Final with a personal-best and NCAA B cut mark of 4:45.66, while Maria Paula Heitmann was right behind her, touching with a PR and B cut of 4:45.73. Respectively, Barnard now ranks 14th, while Heitmann comes in at No. 16 on the all-time performer list in the event at IU.
200 IM
Indiana will bring back an impressive six swimmers for tonight's finals of the 200 IM, led by Lilly King and Christine Jensen, who both qualified for the Championship Final.
King, the defending Big Ten champion in the event, will be the No. 3 seed tonight after touching the wall in a NCAA B cut time of 1:56.03 that ranks as the seventh-fastest time in program history. Jensen earned the No. 6 seed in the A Final with a personal-best and NCAA B cut time of 1:56.97 that ranks her as the fourth-best swimmer in the event in IU history.
Rachel Matsumura will swim in the B Final after coming in with a NCAA B cut time of 1:58.91 to qualify 16th overall.
The Hoosiers will have three swimmers in the C Final, led by Sam Lisy who touched the wall in a NCAA B cut time of 1:59.35. Abby Kirkpatrick finished with a personal-best and NCAA B cut of 1:59.55, while fellow freshman Josie Grote touched with a PR and B cut of 1:59.74. Kirkpatrick and Grote now rank No. 16 and No. 18 in school history in the event, respectively.
50 Freestyle
IU will bring back four swimmers for this evening's 50 freestyle finals. Freshman Grace Haskett had a great swim in prelims, touching the wall in a NCAA B cut time of 22.38. Haskett, who owns the school record in the event at 22.10, now owns three of the top four times in the event in school history.
Ali Rockett had a personal-best effort to qualify for the B Final, touching the wall in a time of 22.61 that ranks her as the sixth-best performer in the event at IU.
Both Holly Spears and Shelby Koontz will swim in the C Final tonight, as Spears qualified 22nd overall with a NCAA B cut of 22.96, while Koontz came in with a B cut of 22.98
1-Meter Dive
Indiana's Jessica Parratto earned a spot in the Championship Final of the 1-meter dive, qualifying third overall with a NCAA Zones qualifying score of 326.85. Parratto was extremely consistent in her list in prelims, scoring over 53 points on five of her six attempts.
The No. 9 Hoosiers will continue the 2018 Big Ten Championships on Thursday evening with the finals of the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, 1-meter dive and 400 medley relay.
