Hoosiers In Fifth After Day One of Westbrook Invitational

PEORIA, Ariz. - Indiana Women's Golf opened up the spring season with two solid rounds on Sunday at the Westbrook Invitational and sit in fifth-place overall.
The Hoosiers posted a 285 (-3) and 281 (-7) in the opening 36 holes behind a tied for 8th place performance from freshman Mary Parsons (-4,140). Their combined team score of 281 in the second round on Sunday is the second-best single round performance in school history while the 285 came in tied for seventh overall in a single round. As a team, Indiana is in fifth overall out of 15 teams and combined for a 566 on the day (-10). They are following leader Nebraska (-15), Oklahoma (-18), Ohio State (-17) and host Wisconsin (-11).
Parsons posted two 2-under rounds as she is one of three Hoosiers in the top 20. She's joined by junior Erin Harper who is T-12th (-3, 141) and freshman Priscilla Schmid who is T-18th (-2, 142). Senior Alix Kong is T-30th (-1, 143) and sophomore Elisa Pierre is T-48th (+2, 146).
In the opening round, Parsons finished 2-under for the round after three straight birdies on holes 4-6. Schmid led the way in the opening 18 holes with four birdies to go 1-under par while Harper also turned in a 1-under performance on her scorecard to kick things off.
Parsons led the way again in the second round, with five birdies to collect another 2-under performance. Kong, Schmid and Harper all notched four birdies each in the final 18 holes of the day as Pierre also had three. Individually, freshman Angela Aung is 84th overall (+15, 159).
The third and final round gets underway tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. ET with a shotgun start.
