March 15, 1958 – Shortly after dropping a 94-87 NCAA first-round game to eighth-ranked Notre Dame, the 12th-ranked Hoosiers defeated Miami (Ohio) 98-91 in the Mideast Regional third place game. In the contest, IU put the "Hurryin'" in Hurryin' Hoosiers, attempting 106 field goals in the 40-minute contest. By way of comparison, the 2017-18 men's basketball team averaged 57 field goal attempts per game, with a season high of 70 in the Jan. 6 win at Minnesota. The 106 field goal attempts ranks seventh on IU's all-time list, well behind the 124 the Hoosiers attempted on Dec. 12, 1950, in an 87-68 win over TCU.
March 15, 1973 – In an extremely difficult NCAA opener, Indiana used 29 points and 10 rebounds from Steve Downing and 16 points from Steve Green to knock off No. 5 Marquette 75-69 in Nashville, Tenn. Downing's performance was no small feat considering Marquette's frontcourt was led by All-American and eventual four-time NBA All-Star Maurice Lucas, who was limited to 12 points and five rebounds in the contest.
March 15, 1974 – Four days after losing a 75-67 neutral court playoff game against fellow Big Ten co-champion Michigan for the conference's lone NCAA Tournament bid, Indiana opened postseason play in the Conference Commissioner's Association tournament with a 73-71 win over Tennessee. Bob Knight's team followed that victory with a one-point overtime win over Toledo and a 25-point victory against USC to claim the CCA crown. The March 15 victory against Tennessee was the first of 34 straight for IU, ultimately ending with the 92-90 loss to Kentucky in the 1975 regional final. That 34-game winning streak remains the longest winning streak in Big Ten history, one game better than IU's 33-game streak from 1975-76.
March 15, 1992 – In a stunning upset, Purdue knocked down four free throws in the final minute to defeat Indiana 61-59 at Mackey Arena, costing the Hoosiers a share of the Big Ten title. The Boilermaker victory avenged a 41-point beating that the Hoosiers handed Purdue in late January, and enabled the Jimmy Jackson-led Ohio State squad to claim the conference title outright. Calbert Cheaney led IU with 20 points, while Damon Bailey added 16 and Greg Graham 11. While the setback was a heartbreaker, Indiana bounced back when the NCAA Tournament opened four days later. Indiana posted double-digit wins against Eastern Illinois (94-55), Louisiana State (89-79), Florida State (85-74) and UCLA (106-79) to earn a trip to the Final Four in Minneapolis.
March 15, 2012 – Indiana ends a four-year NCAA Tournament drought with a 79-66 victory against New Mexico State in Portland, Ore. Jordan Hulls scored 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting for the fourth-seeded Hoosiers, while Cody Zeller, Christian Watford and Will Sheehey each chipped in with 14 more. Indiana would go on to beat VCU in the second round before falling to eventual NCAA Champion Kentucky in the Sweet 16.
