Schmid and Pierre Lead Hoosiers On Day One of Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico - Freshman Priscilla Schmid combined to go 3-over par as she paced the Indiana Women's Golf team at the Hawkeye El Tigre at the El Tigre Golf Course and Country Club on Friday.
Schmid opened the day with an even par performance on two birdies and 11 holes at par to lead her team with a T16th performance (147). She is joined by sophomore Elisa Pierre in the top 20 as Pierre posted 2-over performances (74, 74) with four birdies as she started off the day with one on hole two and ended in a T19th. The Santa Clarita, Calif. native is T19th in the standings at the end of the day.
Junior Erin Harper improved 12 strokes in round two to finish the day with IU's lowest round of 70. She is T38th (154) with six birdies in the final 18 holes. Rounding out the Hoosiers lineup were freshman Mary Parsons (81, 75) and senior Alix Kong (78, 78) in T56th each carding a 156.
As a team, IU is in a tie for ninth with New Mexico State coming in with a 599. They improved in round two by nine strokes to close out play for the day. Just 11 strokes separate teams between second and ninth with Arizona in a commanding lead at 6-under. Washington, San Diego State, Wisconsin and New Mexico are in the top four after 36 holes. Indiana is just five strokes back of the Badgers and Lobos heading into tomorrow's round.
The entire IU roster is participating in the spring break event, with senior Pear Siriko in T56th (156) while freshman Angela Aung and sophomore Carolina Garrett came in T66th (158) while sophomore Emma Fisher rounded out the field in T75th (164).
The third and final round of the invitational will kick off at 11 a.m. ET with a shotgun start.
