Doyle’s Final Round 69 Leads IU to Third Place at Mission Inn Spring Spectacular

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Florida – Behind a final round 3-under 69 from senior Brendon Doyle, the Indiana men's golf team matched their best team finish of the season by taking home third place at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular at Mission Inn Golf Resort – El Campeon Golf Course.

The Hoosiers finished the tournament with a team score of 888 (+24), just two shots out of second place.

The 69 is the second-best final round score for Doyle, who finished tied for seventh overall at Mission Inn. Earlier this season he posted a 65 in the final round of the Windon Memorial. Doyle recorded a bogey on his second hole of the day on Sunday but the played the next 13 holes in 3-under par to close the tournament with momentum.

While they didn't match their strong scores from day one, Ethan Shepherd and Jake Brown both finished the tournament tied for 13 and 6-over par following final round scores of 76 and 77, respectively.

Sophomore Brock Ochsenreiter played his first nine holes in 2-under par and was still 2-under par on his round heading into the final three holes. But a pair of bogeys brought him back to level par for the round and 16-over par for the tournament, which was good for a tie for 40th overall.

Also tying for 40th overall was Evan Gaesser, who carded a final round 78.

Jack Sparrow was the top performer among the four individuals for the Hoosiers, as he tied for 37th at 15-over par after his 77 in the final round.

Christian Fairbanks ended up in 57th place after an 81 in the final round while Evan Yakubov finished tied for 60th and Trevor Ranton closed in a tie for 67th.

Indiana is back on the links this Friday at the Bighorn Collegiate in Palm Desert, California.
