BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana men's tennis team (8-6) fell to the Drake Bulldogs, 4-3, on the backend of a doubleheader on Friday night inside the IU Tennis Center. The loss comes after the Hoosiers swept Marquette 4-0 in the afternoon.
After losing the doubles point and the first singles match, IU fought back to create an intense singles session.
At the top spot, senior Raheel Manji won 6-3, 6-1 and freshman Bennett Crane followed it up with a 6-4, 7-5 win to tie the match 2-2. Once again, the Bulldogs climbed ahead after a second spot win. With no room for error, sophomore Zac Brodney pulled it even again with a 6-4, 7-5 victory.
The match would come down to the third spot pitting senior Keivon Tabrizi and Barny Thorold. Two sets weren't enough to find a winner. The third set went back-and-forth until Thorold grabbed two games following a 4-4 tie to win the match for himself and Drake.
Next up, IU goes back on the road for the next two matches with the first being March 11 at Northwestern. On a spring break trip, the Hoosiers head to Orlando to play UCF on March 16.
