Ochsenreiter Finishes Second, Hoosiers Take Seventh at Bighorn Invitational

PALM DESERT, California – The final round of the Bighorn Invitational saw Indiana post a team score of 10-under (278) – the third-best round of the 12 teams on the day – to finish seventh at 4-under par for the tournament. Sophomore Brock Ochsenreiter capped off his best collegiate finish with a 69 in the final round to finish in a tie for second individually.

Ochsenreiter was joined by Jake Brown (68) and Brendon Doyle (69) with outstanding final rounds to propel the Hoosiers up the leaderboard against numerous teams ranked higher than IU. The Hoosiers entered the tournament ranked ninth out of the 12 teams and would go on to beat the three teams ranked below them and two teams ranked above them.

For Ochsenreiter, he was able to take advantage of the par 5's on the course, playing them in 10-under for the week to lead the entire 66-person field. In the final round, he birdied three of the four par 5's and finished with four birdies and one bogey on the day.

Doyle tied for 21st after his final round of 3-under that could have been much better. He totaled eight birdies in the round – including five on the front nine – but a trio of bogeys on the back nine and a double bogey mixed in on the front nine derailed the really low number. Over the last six rounds, Doyle has posted scores of par or better three times.

Jake Brown carded the best final round score for the Hoosiers on Saturday, using seven birdies to post a 68 and move up to a tie for 31st at 2-over par for the tournament.

Jack Sparrow provided an even par round of 72 on Saturday, but the round featured five birdies and five bogeys. Starting on hole 10, Sparrow went out in 4-under before playing the front nine in 4-over. The tie for 42nd marked the best finish of the season for Sparrow since the Windon Memorial on Oct. 8-9.

Freshman Ethan Shepherd was unable to find his groove over the three rounds and finished tied for 62nd after a 79 in his final round.

Indiana will be back in action April 7-8 at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate in Kannapolis, North Carolina.
