The event wraps up three days later, with James "Doc" Counsilman's Hoosiers winning the first of what would be six consecutive NCAA titles. March 28, 1981 – A close game at halftime quickly turned into a route as the Hoosiers rolled into the 1981 NCAA title game with a 67-49 win over Dale Brown's LSU Tigers in Philadelphia. LSU led 30-27 at halftime before Landon Turner and Isiah Thomas took over in the game's final 20 minutes. Turner led IU with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Thomas added 14 points and four assists. LSU shot just 19-of-59 for the game, including a 2-of-12 effort from second-leading scorer Rudy Macklin who had broken his pinkie in the Tigers' Elite Eight win over Wichita State.
March 28, 1987 – In front of 64,959 fans at the Louisiana Superdome, Steve Alford scored 33 points to lead Indiana to a 97-93 win over No. 1 UNLV in the national semifinals. In addition to Alford, Dean Garrett (18 points, 11 rebounds) and Ricky Calloway (12 points, six rebounds, six assists) came up big, as did reserves Steve Eyl and Joe Hillman. Eyl was pressed into duty when Daryl Thomas picked up three fouls in the game's first three minutes, and finished with seven points, five rebounds and two assists. Hillman, meanwhile, chipped in seven points and three assists in 17 minutes.
March 28, 1992 – In a rematch that was no match, second-seeded Indiana demolished top-seeded UCLA 106-79 in the NCAA West Regional Final to earn a spot in the Final Four.
