Indiana Claims Team Championship at Doc Hosea Invitational

CHERRY HILL, New Jersey – The 15th ranked Indiana Rowing team opened the 2018 season by winning the team championship at the Doc Hosea Invitational on Saturday. The Hoosiers finished with 108 points as a team, six points ahead of No. 14 Syracuse.
All four of the Indiana crews advanced to the Grand Finals and three of those four taking home first place.
The First Varsity Eight opened the day by winning their morning heat by nearly three seconds over Dartmouth. Then in the Grand Final, it was IU out in front by three seconds over Dartmouth and Syracuse, who crossed the line in a photo finish for second place.
For the First Varsity Four, they got out of the gates strong in the morning and won their heat with a time of 7:34.41 – nearly 10 seconds ahead of Dartmouth. In the Grand Final, the Hoosiers dropped their time to 7:29.6 and took home first place by six seconds over Penn.
The Second Varsity Four also put on a dominating performance in both of its races. The morning session saw their time of 7:44.4 was 12 seconds better than Cornell in second place. And then in the Grand Final, the Hoosiers once again finished in first with Cornell in second place by 10 seconds.
After placing second in their morning heat, the Second Varsity Eight finished fourth in the Grand Final with a time of 6:47.4.
Indiana will be back in action on April 7 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, as part of a Big Ten Double Dual with Michigan and Michigan State.
