Former IU Rower Hunsberger Joins Coaching Staff

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – A former four-year athlete at Indiana, Clare Hunsberger has joined the IU rowing coaching staff, head coach Steve Peterson announced on Thursday (Sept. 10).
"We are very excited to welcome Clare back to IU rowing as a part of our coaching staff," Peterson said. "Clare herself was a great rower who came up through our novice program and knows what it takes to be successful in this sport. I look forward to watching her recruit and develop the next generation of Indiana rowers."
Hunsberger will coach novice rowers and will help lead the program's recruiting efforts alongside other day-to-day coaching responsibilities.
After graduating from IU in the spring of 2025, Hunsberger served on the Oregon State coaching staff and was part of the CRCA Region 5 Staff of the Year. In Corvallis, Hunsberger helped lead the Beavers back to the NCAA Championships, where the team finished 17th overall.
A team captain from 2023-25, Hunsberger was part of three NCAA Championship teams during her rowing career at IU, earning two 16th-place finishes (2023, 24) and one 17th-place finish (2025), all in the Second Varsity Eight. As a junior, Hunsberger helped the Hoosiers earn a program-record second-place team finish at the 2024 Big Ten Championships, as her 2V8 crew took the bronze medal.
Hunsberger joined the IU program as a novice and by the start of her sophomore season elevated to the Second Varsity Eight and even rowed with the V8 at multiple regattas. Her success on the water included an invitation to the US Rowing U23 Selection Development Camp in 2023 before placing third in the age division at Summer Nationals.
Academically, Hunsberger was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honor at Indiana University and earned the IU Athletics Academic Achievement Award. She graduated in May 2025 with a bachelor's in public health and. A minor in coaching.
