Play Suspended Due To Darkness As IU Sits In Second At Fresno State Classic
FRESNO, Calif. - A frost delay pushed back the start of the Fresno State Classic on Monday and forced suspension due to darkness as Indiana Women's Golf sits in second overall. Three Hoosiers will finish up the remaining second round before play begins on Tuesday in the third and final round.
Junior Erin Harper led the way for Indiana at Copper River Country Club, posting a 2-under opening round while sitting even with three holes left in round two. She is tied for second overall, chipping in seven birdies on the day. Following closely is freshman Mary Parsons who tied for ninth after 36-holes, finishing the opening 18 holes at even par while leaving three holes left for tomorrow, currently shooting 3-over par in the round.
Indiana is second overall in the 11-team field, combining for a 294 in round one while sitting 4-over par in the second round (+14 overall) with the competition coming before teeing off in the third and final round tomorrow morning. They sit behind leader Sacramento State (-3) as Fresno State, Santa Clara and UC Riverside round out the top five.
Two other Hoosiers are in the top 25 after rounds one and two with sophomore Elisa Pierre shooting a 76 in the first round and shaving two strokes off in the second round to sit in T21st. Senior Alix Kong matched Pierre in the opening round shot a 75 in the second to in T25th while freshman Priscilla Schmid is T31st (153). Individually, sophomore Carolina Garrett set a new career low round of 74 in round one while she finished in T47th (158).
Heading into tomorrow and pending any frost, six groups that will need to complete round two beginning with a 10:30 a.m. ET. Round three will begin at 12 p.m. ET with a shotgun start.
