IOWA CITY, IOWA - The No. 48 Indiana men's tennis team (12-10) began its last road trip of the regular season with a 4-3 win over the Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday night inside the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex (HTRC).
IU dropped the doubles point with their lone win belonging to juniors Antonio Cembellin and Afonso Salgado at the third spot.
As the Hoosiers fell down early, they quickly put themselves in a lead with three singles wins. Cembellin locked up a 2-0 night when he won 6-4, 6-0 at the two spot. Right next to him at the three spot, senior Keivon Tabrizi defeated Joe Tyler, 6-3, 6-0.
After clinching two matches last weekend, freshman Andrew Redding made his presence felt this week when he won his eighth straight match to keep a perfect singles record in dual play.
Leading 3-1, the Hoosiers needed to grab one of the remaining three matches that went to a third set. After failing to win the next two matches, making it 3-3, Indiana looked towards reigning Big Ten Athlete of the Week, Zac Brodney.
Brodney, holding a 5-2 record in the Big Ten, found himself in a tiebreaker to decide the third set and the team match. As it went back-and-forth, Brodney came through with a 7-4 tiebreak win to secure the Hoosiers fifth conference win.
Up next, the Hoosiers head to Lincoln for a match against the Cornhuskers on Sunday. First serve will be at 1 p.m. Next week, IU will close out the regular season at home with Ohio State on Friday, April 20 and senior day on Sunday, April 22 at 12 p.m. when the Hoosiers take on Penn State.
