April 4, 1987 – The Bloomington Herald Times runs a story detailing the Hoosiers' trip to the White House to meet Pres. Ronald Reagan the previous day following IU's 1987 NCAA Championship. According to the newspaper report, it was a quick trip for the team – they departed from the Monroe County airport at 10 a.m., and landed back in Bloomington at 9 p.m. that same day. They packed a great deal in during those 11 hours, though. The Herald Times' account details not only the visit with Reagan and Vice President George Bush, but also a tourist's view of the city and a visit to the floor of the Senate courtesy of then-Indiana Sen. Dan Quayle.
April 4, 1992 – Indiana's quest for a sixth NCAA Championship came to an end as defending national champion Duke held off a furious rally in the closing minutes to beat IU, 81-78 in Minneapolis. The Hoosiers built a 12-point lead in the first half and appeared poised to advance to a Big Ten-only NCAA final against surprising Michigan and the Fab Five. But Duke put together a 31-6 run that stretched from the end of the first half and into the second half to lift Coach Mike Krzyzewski's team to the NCAA final. Indiana was saddled with significant foul trouble throughout the game - Damon Bailey picked up his fourth foul with 18:25 remaining and Calbert Cheaney was hit with his fourth with 14:53 to go. Eventually, four Hoosiers fouled out – Bailey, Cheaney, Alan Henderson and Greg Graham. The foul trouble led to little-used reserve Todd Leary entering the game late, and it was Leary's three 3-pointers in a 27-second stretch that gave IU a chance in the closing minute. But a potential game-tying 3-pointer from Jamal Meeks missed, and Duke advanced.
April 4, 2009 – Eric Arnett became the first IU pitcher in history to pitch 10 innings and eventual Big Ten Freshman of the Year Eric Dickerson hit a solo home run in the top of the 10th inning to lift IU to a 2-1 win over Illinois in Champaign. It was one of 14 home runs on the season for Dickerson, who was a Freshman All-American in 2009 and a first-team All-American in 2010 and 2011. A third-round pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2011, Dickerson made his major league debut in 2015 and is currently with the San Diego Padres organization. He's struggled with injuries in each of the past two seasons: in 2017 he missed the season after undergoing surgery for a bulging disk in his back, and last week he underwent season-ending left elbow surgery.
April 4, 2013 – Hoosiers Jordan Hulls and Aulani Sinclair both competed in the State Farm 3-Point Championship, which took place in conjunction with the Final Four in Atlanta. After advancing through the first round and semifinal round, Hulls lost to VCU's Troy Daniels in the final, 17-15. Sinclair, meanwhile, duplicated Hulls' feat of qualifying for the championship round. But the Eminence, Ind., native did Hulls one better, beating N.C. State's Marissa Kastanek 20-17 in the championship round.
April 4, 2015 – Thomas Bryant appeared on ESPNU and committed to the Hoosiers at halftime of a high school basketball game. Citing the success that Tom Crean had in helping Cody Zeller and Noah Vonleh become NBA Lottery picks, Bryant picked Indiana over Kentucky, Syracuse and Missouri. During his two seasons in Bloomington, Bryant averaged 12.2 points and 6.2 rebounds while helping lead the 2015-16 team to a Big Ten championship and a Sweet 16 berth. He declared for the NBA Draft after his sophomore season and was selected in the second round by the Utah Jazz.
