Hoosiers End Regular Season With East Coast Gauntlet

Indiana will play five games in the next three days
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The 2018 regular season comes to a furious finish for No. 13 Indiana. The Hoosiers, for the first time this season, play five games in a weekend on the eastern seaboard. To make matters more challenging, all five games come against conference foes.
But the Hoosiers are energized after last weekend's valiant effort against No. 9 Michigan and need a strong showing in Providence and Boston to raise their conference tournament seed. That begins with Friday's standalone game at Brown, followed by two ranked opponents on Saturday in Boston. Sunday ends the season with two rematches, the first of which comes against their former head coach.
Last Action: Battle in Bloomington
Indiana wrapped up their home schedule last weekend with their Senior Day game against their Big Ten and CWPA rival, No. 9 Michigan. The Hoosiers gave an oustanding performance given the absence of two starters, but the Wolverines came back in the third quarter to hand Indiana a 9-7 defeat.
Sarah Young and Karrie Kozokar registered two goals apiece to lead Indiana's attack, while Jessica Gaudreault made 12 saves. The second quarter score from Kelly Matthews was the 600th scored by the four true seniors in the graduating class.
Setting an Example
Indiana's 2018 senior group is the second graduating class in program history with four players to end their careers north of the 100-goal milestone. The other class to achieve this feat was the graduating class of 2015 (Summer Creighton, Rebecca Gerrity, Colleen McNaught, Shelby Taylor), which played out their final season during the current seniors' freshman year.
The 2018 seniors hold the program record for goals scored by a graduating class, at 602.
Caught in the Ivy
A hot start to the weekend could yield positive results out east, but that will have to come against a trio of challenges from the Ivy League with two true away games. Most of the weekend takes place in Harvard's Blodgett Pool but Indiana will open Friday in Providence against Brown. The Hoosiers lead their series with the Bears, 22-4, and have won their last three games in Coleman Aquatic Center.
Indiana's top-ranked matchup of the weekend will pit them against No. 15 Princeton, a perennial contender in the CWPA. The all-time series is nearly even, with Indiana holding a 12-11 lead, and the teams split their last four meetings. The Tigers won last year's encounter, 10-6, in upstate New York.
The Crimson are a familiar foe, as the Hoosiers played them earlier this year and the two teams played alongside one another at the Hoosier Invitational. Indiana edged Harvard, 11-10, two weeks ago on the backs of four-goal efforts by Jennifer Beadle and Sarah Young.
Of Note...
• The Hoosiers have scored 31 combined hat tricks from nine different players this year. Jennifer Beadle and Sarah Young the high-scoring group with 8 hat tricks, with Young leading the total goal count at 43 this year.
• Indiana is 10-2 this season when Jessica Gaudreault makes 10 or more saves in a game.
• The Hoosiers are 19-3 when holding their opponent to less than 10 goals per game.
• Sunday's game against George Washington will be Indiana's first against former head coach Barry King. The IU water polo program began with King in 1998 and his teams recorded 426 wins over 18 seasons.
• The 2018 season culminates at the end of the month with the CWPA Championships, which take place from April 27-29 in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. The tournament champion gains an automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Water Polo Championships in Los Angeles.
