BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana men's tennis team (11-10) finished the weekend with its second straight win over a ranked team, this one coming against No. 46 Wisconsin, 4-2, on Sunday inside the IU Tennis Center.
Wisconsin brought in a doubles team that were ranked No. 2 and No. 89 nationally and the Hoosiers were up for the task.
Senior Raheel Manji and sophomore Zac Brodney started things off in the right direction for IU when they won 6-4 at the second spot against the No. 89 ranked pair.
Needing to win one of the next two remaining matches, the attention turned to the first and third spot as they both headed into a tiebreaker. Juniors Antonio Cembellin and Afonso Salgado found themselves down 4-0 in the tiebreak but raced back for a 7-5 win to give the Hoosiers the doubles for the second time this weekend.
At the top spot, senior Keivon Tabrizi and Bennett Crane were in a tight tiebreaker with the No. 2 doubles team of Carranza/Dodridge when the match went unfinished due to the Indiana clinch.
To complete a weekend filled already with two doubles wins and a singles win, Zac Brodney added a second singles win when he won 6-3, 6-2 to put the Hoosiers up 2-0. Brodney won his 13th match of the season and has won four out of his last five matches.
Two sets wouldn't be enough to decide the rest of the matches. In the first three-set finish, the Badgers got on the board with a win at the two spot.
Indiana extended their lead to 3-1 after Manji recovered from a first set loss to win the second set 6-3 and third set 6-2.
Although allowing the Badgers to win at the four spot, the Hoosiers had a chance to clinch with a win at No. 6 with freshman Andrew Redding. Two days after clinching the victory for IU against No. 31 Minnesota, Redding again closed out a match when he edged Robert Krill in a third set tiebreaker. In dual play, Redding is 7-0.
The Hoosiers take their final road trip of the regular season when they face Iowa on April 13 at 6 p.m. and Nebraska on April 15 at 1 p.m. The following weekend, IU will close out the regular season at home and senior day will be April 22 at Noon when the Hoosiers take on Penn State.
