BLOOMINGTON, Indiana – As we celebrate Father's Day on June 17, 2018, we asked the returning members of the men's basketball team to give us the best advice that their father's have given them.
Here's a look at what they said:
Vijay Blackmon (James Sr.): "Work hard and have fun! Control what you can control."
Vijay Blackmon
De'Ron Davis (Ronald, who passed away 10 years ago): "Never settle. Never feel like the job is done. If you get 20 points, you should be able to get 25. Never settle for what is good, always try and be better each and every day."
Al Durham (Al Sr.): "Be a leader, don't follow anybody. Don't just go through the motions. Live each day to the best of your ability and make sure you work the hardest."
Al Durham
Devonte Green (Danny Sr.): "He told me to always be yourself. I took that to heart. Father's Day is special every year. I wish you could celebrate it all the time."
Race Thompson (Darrell): "Never take (anything) from anyone. Father's Day and Mother's Day are very special in my house. It's tough because this will be the first Father's Day where I won't be at home."
Race Thompson
Johnny Jager (Brian): "First stick to your values. Put God first, your family second and put your work ethic third. If you do that, then most likely you will be successful in whatever you do."
Juwan Morgan (Darren): "Who is better than you, no one. Always work hard."
Juwan Morgan
Ethan Lasko (Jon): "Keep working hard no matter the situation and never give up. Ultimately everything will work out."
Zach McRoberts (Tim): "Work hard in everything you do. Take that mentality, whether it's basketball, school or work."
Justin Smith (Edward): "Attack everything with as much energy as you can possibly give."
Justin Smith
Clifton Moore (Clifton Sr.): "Never give up. Whatever comes your way, you have to stick through it and you will see the results."
Quentin Taylor (Randal): "There is a mind, body and spirit and you have to feed all three. With whatever you do in life, you have to please all of them and I take that wherever I go. I need to be mentally healthy, spiritually healthy and physically healthy."
