September 19, 1976 – Coach Jerry Yeagley's men's soccer program, just three years removed from gaining varsity status, handed Dayton a 6-0 setback to improve to 2-0-1 on the season. Yeagley's team finished 18-1-1 in 1976, losing to San Francisco 1-0 in its first-ever NCAA Championship final. The win over Dayton, meanwhile, was IU's third straight in the series, a streak that currently stands at 11. During those 11 wins, Indiana has outscored the Flyers a stunning 62-0. Lopsided victories for the Hoosiers, though, wasn't anything new in 1976. During that season, IU also posted a 19-0 victory over Indiana State and a 13-0 win against Earlham.
Sept. 19, 1981 – In the first meeting between the two teams since they squared off in the 1968 Rose Bowl, USC came to Bloomington and handed the Hoosiers a 21-0 setback. In the 1968 game, IU was unable to slow down an eventual Heisman Trophy winning running back in O.J. Simpson, and the case was the same in 1981 as Marcus Allen carried 40 times for 274 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Trojans. Allen's effort against IU was one of his eight 200-yard performances during the 1981 season, which saw him eventually out-distance Georgia's Herschel Walker (2nd), BYU's Jim McMahon (3rd), Pitt's Dan Marino (4th) and Ohio State's Art Schlichter (5th) for the Heisman.
Sept. 19, 1987 – Eventual Big Ten MVP Ernie Jones posted a career-best 163 yards receiving as IU fell to Kentucky, 34-15, in Lexington. While the setback in Lexington was a disappointment, the 1987 season wasn't for Coach Bill Mallory's Hoosier squad, as IU finished 8-4 overall and 6-2 in the Big Ten and earned a berth in the Peach Bowl. Jones finished the year ranked 10th nationally in receptions (66), first in receiving yards (1,265) and second in touchdown receptions (13).
Sept. 19, 2009 – Indiana's Ray Fisher returned the opening kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown, setting the stage for Indiana's 38-21 over Akron. It marked the first time in school history that IU had returned the game's opening kickoff for a score. The Hoosiers also got 163 yards passing and two touchdowns from quarterback Ben Chappell, while the Hoosier defense intercepted four passes, including two from safety Will Meyers.
Sept. 19, 2015 – Mitchell Paige returned a punt 91 yards for a touchdown, helping the Hoosiers to a 38-35 win over Western Kentucky. Paige's punt return was the fifth longest punt return for a score in IU football history, just three yards short of Lance Bennett's school-record 94 yard return from 2004. In addition to Paige's performance, former Hoosier Jordan Howard enjoyed one of his two 200-yard games during his Hoosier career, running for 203 yards on 31 carries.
