LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Indiana Women's Soccer completed a perfect weekend as the Hoosiers defeated Loyola Marymount on Sunday afternoon, 2-1. All the game's goals came in the second half, with junior Chandra Davidson and redshirt senior Annelie Leitner scoring for the Hoosiers.
KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana broke the scoreless stalemate in the 70th minute to take a 1-0 lead. After the Hoosiers earned a free kick from long distance, graduate transfer Claudia Day sent the ball in to senior Abby Allen in the box. Allen headed it over the head of LMU goalkeeper Charlee Pruitt. Davidson then charged forward and pushed it in for her first goal of the season.
• The Hoosiers doubled their lead in the 82nd minute on Leitner's second goal of the weekend. After she sent the ball down to Davidson on her left, she charged up the middle to get into position for Davidson's service, which she buried.
• LMU looked to mount a comeback as the Lions made it 2-1 in the 85th minute. Following a scrum on a corner kick, Maki Kono found the back of the net to make it a one-goal game.
• The Lions continued to press for an equalizer, including back-to-back looks with just over a minute on the clock. However, sophomore goalkeeper Bethany Kopel stopped the first one before Day blocked the rebound shot.
NOTABLES
• Leitner now has three goals on the season – all of which have been gamewinners for the Hoosiers.
• Kopel ended the game with seven saves, five of which came in the second half of action.
• Sophomore Camryn Carty made her first career appearance for the Hoosiers.
• LMU held a 15-1 corner kick advantage and outshot the Hoosiers, 17-9.
• IU has now scored at least two goals in every game of the season.
QUOTABLE
"I just think we had a lot of fight and grit. We were determined to score a goal in that second half and we found a way. Then we had the second one and they tried to come back, but that's where the fight came out. Every offensive player brings something different to our attack and each game, someone else is stepping up."
-- Junior Chandra Davidson
"This team has shown the ability to adapt in-game and our senior leadership on and off the field has been incredible. It's been the difference-maker in creating this culture and team chemistry where everyone is a part of this. That's helped us not just come close, but come out with a result. We have a lot of work left to do but I'm proud of the fact that we're coming out of California with two wins. We have two more non-conference opportunities against two very good teams and we get to go back home in front of our fans next week. We built this non-conference schedule to challenge us in so many ways – to see different types of athletes, different types of play, different systems so that we don't have any surprises in Big Ten play."
