Hoosiers Split on Opening Day of Active Ankle Challenge

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball team defeated North Dakota State 3-1 (25-9, 22-25, 25-19, 25-15) and battled, but fell 3-1 (22-25, 23-25, 25-22, 23-25) against RV Northern Iowa on Friday in Worthen Arena.
Key Moments vs. NDSU
• Leading 10-7 in the opening set against NDSU, the Hoosiers used a 6-0 run to open up a 16-7 advantage and cruised to a 25-9 set one victory.
• With Indiana up 20-18 in the third set, Hayden Huybers and Lexi Johnson combined for a block and Johnson ripped over an ace to put the Hoosiers up 22-18. The Hoosiers scored three of the next four points to take the third set, 25-19.
• After an Indiana attack error to narrow the Hoosiers lead to 16-13 in the fourth set, IU head coach Steve Aird called a timeout. After the timeout Indiana used a 9-2 run and ended the match on a block from Lexi Johnson and Hayden Huybers.
Key Moments vs. Northern Iowa
• In the first set Indiana trailed Northern Iowa 13-9. The Hoosiers used a 4-0 run and tied the set on a solo stuff from freshman Breana Edwards.
• At 22-22 in the first set, the Panthers scored three straight points to take the opening set, 25-22.
• The Hoosiers fell behind 0-2 in the match as UNI won set two, 25-23.
• Indiana trailed 17-12 in the third set, but went on 9-2 run to take a 21-19 lead on a kill from Breana Edwards. The Hoosiers would win set three, 25-22.
• Trailing 22-18 in the fourth set, the Hoosiers got back-to-back points to cut the deficit to two. After UNI went up three at 23-20, again the Hoosiers rallied and brought it to 23-22 on an ace from Bayli Lebo.
• The Hoosiers were within one again at 24-23, but a UNI kill won the match for the Panthers.

• The Hoosiers had 16 blocks against NDSU, including five in the first set.
• In the Hoosiers, last three matches they have recorded a total of 44 team blocks.
• Kendall Beerman reached double-digit kills for the sixth straight match of the season with 10 against NDSU. Beerman added 10 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.
• Deyshia Lofton led Indiana with eight blocks against NDSU. Lofton has tallied seven or more blocks in four matches this season.
• Bayli Lebo had a career-high 24 digs against Northern Iowa. With her 21 digs against Temple and 20 digs against NDSU, Lebo has recorded 20 or more digs in three straight matches.
• Freshmen Breana Edwards led the Hoosiers in kills in both matches today with 11 against the Bison and 15 against the Panthers.
• Deyshia Lofton had 12 kills on 18 attempts with one error to hit .611 against Northern Iowa.
• Northern Iowa has been ranked in the top-25 of the AVCA poll this season and has wins against then No. 13 Creighton and No. 5 Kentucky.
