BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The New England Revolution announced on Friday that they have signed Indiana University men's soccer's Justin Rennicks to a Homegrown Player contract. Rennicks will forego his final two seasons of eligibility with the Hoosiers.
After being limited to just nine matches his freshman season due to injury, Rennicks has a breakthrough season for IU in 2018, earning Second-Team All-Big Ten and First-Team All-North Region honors. Rennicks scored six goals on the year, including three match-winners, and started all 20 games he appeared in for IU.
"Justin has a bright future ahead as he begins his professional career with the New England Revolution in MLS," Indiana head coach Todd Yeagley said. "He played an important role in our success during his time at Indiana. His athletic qualities are special and we wish him all the best as he continues on his soccer journey."
During the 2018 season, Rennicks missed time with Indiana playing for the U.S. U-20 National Team in the 2018 U-20 Concacaf Championship, helping the American squad qualify for next year's U-20 World Cup. Rennicks appeared in all eight matches of the tournament (four starts), scoring four goals with five assists.
"I want to thank coach Yeagley and the entire IU coaching staff for the experience and the part they all played in my development over the last two years," Rennicks remarked. "I am proud to be a part of arguably the greatest college soccer program on Earth and will forever be grateful for how it has impacted my life. I'm happy to be a Hoosier for life."
Rennicks is the fifth player in Indiana history to sign a Homegrown Player contract, joining Trey Muse (Seattle Sounders FC, 2019), Grant Lillard (Chicago Fire, 2018), Patrick Doody (Chicago Fire, 2015) and Tommy Thompson (San Jose Earthquakes, 2014).
