Late Goal Proves Costly as Hoosiers are edged by No. 19 Rutgers, 3-2

PISCATAWAY, N.J.— Indiana Field Hockey (4-8, 1-4) stuck around with No. 19 Rutgers (6-5, 1-2) on Friday afternoon but a late fourth quarter goal would be the difference as the Hoosiers were edged, 3-2.
KEY MOMENTS
• The Scarlet Knights struck first in the first quarter with a goal off a penalty corner to make the score 1-0. To end the quarter, the Hoosiers earned a corner. Senior Sheridan Weiss found Mary Kate Kesler's rebound for a goal right post to tie the game at one a piece.
• Sophomore Hailey Couch scored her eighth goal of the season in the second quarter off an assist from senior captain Ciara Girouard to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.
• In the third quarter, Rutgers would tie Friday's contest 2-2 heading into the final 15 minutes of action.
• Keeping the match tied for most of the fourth quarter, a late penalty corner Rutgers would give them the game winning goal in the final minute of regulation.
NOTABLES
• Hailey Couch and Sheridan Wiess both scored goals for the Hoosiers. This is the fifth game so far this season that Indiana has seen goal from multiple players.
• Mary Kate Kesler led the Hoosiers with two shots including one on target. Indiana was outshot by the Scarlet Knights, 20-5.
• Shelby Querry received her first start of the season. The R-So. had a career high in saves with nine.

The Hoosiers will wrap up their east coast road trip on Sunday at No. 2 Maryland. Action against the Terrapins is slated for 12 p.m. ET.
