BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -Â Â The No. 4 Indiana men's soccer team (8-1-3, 4-0-0 Big Ten) outlasted the Michigan Wolverines (6-3-3, 2-1-2 Big Ten) for a 1-0 victory at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Â
Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie and his wife, Laurie Burns McRobbie, attended the match as art of the Bicentennial celebration.
Â
KEY MOMENTS
• The first real chance for either team came from the Wolverines in the 30th minute of action. Michigan earned a corner kick and had three shots from inside the six-yard box, all blocked by Hoosier defenders to avoid any harm.Â
• Indiana struck for the only goal of the match on a counterattack in the 67th minute. Redshirt junior Spencer Glass played a beautiful strike off his left foot from 13 yards out that snuck beyond the keeper and into the back of the net. The game-winning tally from Glass was his second of the season and the eighth of his career.Â
• Indiana looked to put the match out of reach in the 77th minute when redshirt junior A.J. Palazzolo put a header on frame, but the effort was saved by Michigan senior keeper Andrew Verdi.Â
• The Wolverines would not surrender quietly and found two high-quality chances in the final 10 minutes of play. The first opportunity came in the 82nd minute, but the UM shot was blocked away by the Indiana defense.
• The final push came in the 87th minute, but freshman goalkeeper Roman Celentano was up to the task and shut the door on the Wolverines to preserve the shutout victory.
Â
NOTABLES
• Celentano posted his second-straight scoreless match. He is the first freshman keeper since Trey Muse recorded four-straight shutouts from Nov. 6-19, 2017 to register consecutive clean sheets.Â
• Indiana is undefeated in the team's last 32 regular-season, Big Ten conference matches, posting a record of 23-0-9. IU's last league loss in the regular season came on Oct. 10, 2015 in overtime at Ohio State, 1-0.
• IU is unbeaten in the last eight contests with Michigan dating back to an Oct. 23, 2013 loss in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Hoosiers are 7-0-1 against the Wolverines since and have outscored the Big Ten rival by a tally of 14-3 during that stretch. In total, Indiana holds a series lead of 22-3-2 against Michigan and is 8-2-2 at home.
• The result leaves the Hoosiers unbeaten in the last 33 home matches played at Jerry Yeagley Field. The undefeated streak dates back to a 2-1 loss to No. 20 Virginia Tech in overtime on Nov. 27, 2016.
