Penn State Offense Proves Potent as Hoosiers drop match, 3-1

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Field Hockey opened the weekend by hosting Penn State on Friday afternoon. The Hoosiers dropped the match to Penn State, 3-1.
KEY MOMENTS
• Penn State struck first in the first quarter of the match as Anna Simon scored the goal in the match at the 7:52 mark to put the Nittany Lions up 1-0 at the end of the first 15.
• In the second quarter, Penn State would add on to the lead with another goal by Simon half way through the frame. Hailey Couch notched he first shot of the contest for Indiana.
• Kelsey Giese got a good look on target to start the third quarter but the Nittany Lions goalkeeper was there for the save. Simon would give Penn State a 3-0 lead as she was able to find the back of the goal off a penalty corner.
• Hailey Couch secured an Indiana goal in the fourth quarter on Friday afternoon. Couch's goal was assisted for Jessica Morford. This is the first assist of the season for Morford.
NOTABLES
• Senior Same Scire earned her first start of the season vs. Penn State on Friday afternoon.
• Junior goalkeeper Sachi Ananias recorded 12 saves on the afternoon. This is the second most saves she has had this season.
• Senior captain Kelsey Giese and Hailey Couch led the Hoosiers with a shot each. Indiana was outshot 22-5.

The Hoosiers will conclude the four game homestand with Kent State on Sunday for Senior Day. Sunday's matchup is set for 12p at the IU Field Hockey Complex.
