Wrestling Begins Season at MSU Open

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.– The Indiana wrestling team begins the season this week with the Michigan State Open on Nov. 2. The Hoosiers will host their first dual on Nov. 22 against North Dakota State.

IU head coach Angel Escobedo said he is looking to see how the team transfers what they have been working on in practice to competition.

"Areas we are working on, our bottom and hand fighting and getting to our attacks," Escobedo said. "Those are some specific areas we want to see, if they can hit down the technical aspects that we have been training. It is one thing to practice, but another to do in competition."

"We preach attitude and effort, so I want to see their attitude and effort, not only when things are going well, but when things are going bad," he added. "It is important to see them be able to respond and bounce back. If they lose on the front side do they have the grit to come back and take third or fifth or whatever it is on the back side to place."

The Hoosiers will have six wrestlers competing attached and the remainder of the roster competing unattached in the tournament.
