
No. 9 Hoosiers Advance to Big Ten Conference Semifinals

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 9 Indiana men's soccer team (13-2-3, 7-1-0 Big Ten) outlasted the Ohio State Buckeyes (7-11-1, 1-6-1 Big Ten) in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Big Ten Conference Tournament by a final tally of 2-0 at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium on Sunday.
KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana managed to withstand a first-half shot barrage from the Buckeyes. Ohio State opened as the aggressors and fired off four shots in the opening 13 minutes of the contest, which included a three-shot frenzy in less than 20 seconds in the 13th minute. The IU defense blocked two of the three OSU attempts.
• Freshman Joshua Penn broke the scoring seal in the 42nd minute with a left-footed strike from just inside the 18-yard box through heavy traffic. The ball deflected off the goalkeeper but found the back of the net to give IU a 1-0 advantage.
• Ohio State was forced to play a man down after redshirt sophomore Devyn Etling was booked with a red card in the 51st minute. The card was the fourth shown to a Buckeyes on the afternoon.
• Redshirt junior A.J. Palazzolo sealed the victory with a goal in the 85th minute of action. Redshirt junior Spencer Glass spun a left-footed cross right in front of the far post to setup the score. Palazzolo tapped the ball in from the one-yard out to send the game into the final tally of 2-0.

• Indiana qualified for the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament for the seventh-straight season. IU has won 13 Big Ten Tournament titles in program history.
• With the victory, Indiana moves to 38-10-9 all-time in the league tournament. The Hoosiers also carry a series lead of 45-5-4 over the Ohio State Buckeyes.
• The Hoosiers are unbeaten in the last 37 home matches (33-0-4) with the last setback in Bloomington coming in the third round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament against No. 20 Virginia Tech.
• Penn moved into the top spot in both goals and total points for the Hoosiers this season. His six goals and 14 points lead the Indiana roster.
• Palazzolo has notched three goals this season and eight for his career.
