Game Notes: Indiana Heads to Penn State

Setting The Scene
• Riding a four-game winning streak, 24/25/-- Indiana (7-2, 4-2 B1G East) travels to No. 9/11/4 Penn State (8-1, 5-1 B1G East) on Saturday, Nov. 16. Kickoff is set for Noon EST at Beaver Stadium (106,572; Natural Grass) on ABC.
• IU entered the AP Poll for the first time since Sept. 20, 1994, and the Coaches Poll for the first time since Oct. 17, 1994.
• The Nittany Lions are the Hoosiers 13th Top-10 foe since the start of 2015, tied for the fifth-most nationally with Ohio State, behind Alabama (18), Michigan State (15), Auburn (14) and LSU (14).
The Coaches
• Tom Allen was named Indiana's head coach on Dec. 1, 2016, and made his debut at the 2016 Foster Farms Bowl against Utah. The New Castle, Ind., native joined IU as associate head coach/defense on Jan. 15, 2016. In Allen's two seasons as head coach, 21 Hoosiers have earned All-Big Ten honors and 15 have been drafted or invited to NFL camps. (full bio on page 17)
• James Franklin is 53-22 (.707) in his sixth season at Penn State. Franklin served as Vanderbilt head coach (2011-13) and carries an overall record of 77-37 (.675).
News & Notes
• Indiana is bowl eligible for the third time in five seasons.
• With its victory over Northwestern, IU clinched its first winning season since 2007 (7-6) and has won seven games for just the 13th time in program history.
• The Hoosiers own five eight-win (1993, 1988, 1987, 1979, 1905) and two nine-win (1967, 1945) campaigns.
• Indiana's 7-2 record is its best opening-game mark since 1993 (7-2) and tied for the fourth-best in program history (1987, 1993). The 1945 (8-0-1), 1967 (8-1) and 1905 (7-1-1) teams hold the Top-3 spots.
• IU has won four-straight league games for the first time since 1993 and the seventh time ever. The four-consecutive wins are tied for the second-most in school history, behind the 1967 team's five-straight victories.
• The Hoosiers have two 30-plus point Big Ten wins this season – Rutgers (35-0) and Northwestern (34-3) – for the first time since 2001 – at Wisconsin (63-32) and Northwestern (56-21).
• Indiana has reached 30 points eight times in its first nine games, a program record, and in each of the last six, tied for the longest streak in school history (last 4 of 2015 and first 2 of 2016).
• Its eight 30-point games are tied for the second-most (1988, 2007, 2013) in an IU single season behind 2015 (9).
• The Hoosiers yielded three total points in their last two Big Ten home victories, marking the second-lowest, two-game home Big Ten opponent scoring output in a single-season and lowest since they blanked Minnesota (6-0) and Michigan State (6-0) on Nov. 1 and Nov. 8, 1958.
• Indiana has held four opponents: Eastern Illinois (52-0), Connecticut (38-3), Rutgers (35-0) and Northwestern (34-3), to three points or less this season, which marks the most since holding five opponents to three points or less in the 1945 season.
• Stevie Scott III ranks fifth actively among FBS players in career attempts (17.9), 12th in rushing yardage per game (89.2) and 24th in all-purpose yardage per game (103.2).
• Peyton Ramsey is third in completion percentage (67.0), and Logan Justus is second in field goal percentage (90.0.).
• Justus is one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award for the second-straight season.
