NOTES: Hoosiers Open Play in the Indiana Challenge by Hosting Troy

OPENING TIP
Indiana University is in its 120th season of competition in men's basketball and will host Troy on Saturday in the first game of the Indiana Challenge. The Hoosiers are coming off a 91-65 win over North Alabama, while Troy has dropped two close home games to start the season, 76-75 to UAB and 74-68 to Chattanooga. A victory on Saturday would give IU a 4-0 start for the first time since the 2014-15 season. Troy is a member of the Sun Belt Conference. IU is 8-0 all-time against the Sun Belt.

THE COACHES
Indiana Coach Archie Miller begins his third season of guiding the Cream and Crimson. Last year, the Hoosiers finished 19-16 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NIT. He is 177-94 in eight-plus years as a head coach, which includes six years at the University of Dayton. His Flyer teams made NCAA Tournament appearances in each of his last four seasons, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 2014. He is 38-31 at IU. Scott Cross is in his first season as head coach at Troy. He was an assistant last year at TCU and was the head coach at UT Arlington from 2006-18 leading them to 5 post season appearances.

The Hoosiers next 4 games will be a part of the Indiana Challenge. Junior Al Durham leads the team averaging 16.7 points and is shooting 68.0% from the floor and 46.2% from long distance. Junior Justin Smith is contributing 14.3 points and leads the team in steals with 5. Freshman Trayce Jackson-Davis is averaging 13.7 points and a team-high 8.0 rebounds while shooting 67.0% from the floor and 81.0% from the line. He had 20 points against UNA and made 14 of 15 free throws. He has made all seven of his free throw attempts. Sophomore Rob Phinisee had 13 points against the Lions and is averaging 11.3 points and leads the team with 16 assists.

Sophomore Damezi Anderson had a career-high 10 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists against UNA. He made 2 of 3 3FG. Redshirt freshman Jerome Hunter came off the bench and had 12 points in 16 minutes. He has improved his scoring line in each game (7-9-12). In the second half against UNA, the Hoosiers held the Lions to only 5-of-18 shooting (27.8 percent), while outscoring them 44-25. Jackson-Davis' 14 free throws made is the most since Eric Gordon went 14-of-14 on Dec. 29, 2007 against Chicago State. Indiana went 37-of-45 (82.2 percent) from the free-throw line. The 37 made free throws marks the most since draining 39 at Iowa on Feb. 21, 2017 and are the most made by an Archie Miller-coached team at IU. Through 3 games, IU leads the Big Ten in scoring (91.3) and field goal percentage (53.2).
