No. 10 Indiana Travels to Michigan State for Season Finale

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 10-ranked Indiana University men's soccer team (11-2-3, 6-1-0 Big Ten) concludes 2019 regular-season schedule with a trip to East Lansing, Mich. for a date with the Michigan State Spartans (3-10-3, 3-3-1 Big Ten). The season finale will begin at 3 PM ET from DeMartin Soccer Complex.
The game will be televised live on BTN and live stats will be available at IUHoosiers.com.
SETTING THE SCENE
• The Hoosier offense has been firing on all cylinders over the last three matches. Indiana has compiled 13 goals in victories over Evansville (5-1), Rutgers (3-0), and Ohio State (5-1) and now lead the Big Ten with 33 goals scored for the season. The three-game goal output marks the most tallies in a three-game stretch since scoring 14 from Oct. 8-15, 2000.
• A victory over the Spartans would grant the Hoosiers the outright Big Ten Conference regular season championship for the second consecutive season.
• In order to host a quarterfinal conference tournament match, Indiana would need to finish in the top-four in the league standings. The semifinal and final games will be hosted by the Maryland Terrapins.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
• The Michigan State Spartans enter the regular-season finale with an overall record of 3-10-3 and a Big Ten Conference mark of 3-3-1.
• Michigan State has struggled to put the ball in the back of the net all season as the team has produced just 12 goals this season. The 0.75 goals per game ranks 189th nationally and eighth in the nine-team Big Ten Conference. Sparty has scored multiple goals in a game only three times this season. Each game resulted in a win.
• Only two players Spartans have tallied multiple goals this season. Junior Michael Miller leads the team with seven points (two goals, three assists), while redshirt sophomore Alex Shterenberg is second with six points (two goals, two assists).
• Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Hunter Morse has started all 16 games for the Spartans in net. He has surrendered 20 goals during the season (1.21 goals per game) and holds a save percentage of 0.780 after turning away 51-of-71 shots on frame this season.
• Ohio State was selected fourth in the preseason Big Ten Conference poll according to the league's head coaches.
SERIES HISTORY
• Indiana has dominated the series history with Michigan State and holds a 40-8-5 advantage. IU was unbeaten in the first 32 matches with MSU with a record of 31-0-1 from 1974 until 2004. Michigan State's first victory in the series came in a 2-1 result on Nov. 12, 2004.
• The Hoosiers are unbeaten in each of the last five matches with the Spartans dating back to the 2014 season.
• IU has secured a result in 16 of the 18 games played in East Lansing and holds a road record of 15-2-1 against Sparty. Indiana has outscored Ohio State by a tally of 139-33 during the series.
BEZERRA, PENN EACH NET BRACE IN 5-1 WIN OVER OSU
• Freshman Victor Bezerra scored two goals and added an assist to pace the Hoosier offense in a 5-1 victory over the Buckeyes.
• Freshman Joshua Penn tallied his first career brace in the victory. Junior Thomas Warr put the finishing touches on the match with his second goal of the season.
• The five-goal game marked the second in the last three matches for Indiana and gave the Hoosiers 13 total goals in the last three contests. The goal total is the most for the Indiana men's soccer team in a three-game span since scoring 14 from Oct. 8-15, 2000.
POWERED BY YOUTH
• Indiana entered the 2019 season with the second-ranked recruiting class by Top Drawer Soccer. The young freshmen have been dominant for the Hoosiers.
• Seven freshmen have tallied at least one goal for the Hoosiers this season. Victor Bezerra and Joshua Penn are tied for the team-lead with five goals each, while Aidan Morris leads IU with six assists.
• In total, 18 of Indiana's 33 goals this year have come from a freshman.
• Freshman Roman Celentano has maintained a clean goal with only seven goals against this season in eight starts. He has three shutouts.
MORRIS CLEANS UP WEEKLY AWARDS
• For the second time in his debut season with Indiana, freshman Aidan Morris was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 29 for his four-point (one goal, two assists) outing against Rutgers.
