IUWS Set for Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinal Matchup at Rutgers

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 7 seeded Indiana Women's Soccer (8-8-2, 4-5-2) team will travel to No. 2 seeded Rutgers (14-2-2, 8-2-1) on Sunday Nov. 3 for the Quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament. The match is slated for Noon and will be streamed live on BTN+. This is the first time since 2016 that the Hoosiers have earned a spot in the eight-team tournament.
Indiana clinched their spot in the Big Ten Tournament during the final game of the regular season as they defeated Michigan State on the road. The Hoosiers ended the Big Ten regular season with 14 points.

INDIANA IN THE B1G TOURNAMENT
• IU is 5-12-1 all-time in the Big Ten Tournament. Last time the Indiana qualified was in 2016 when they traveled to No. 1 seeded Minnesota as the No. 8 seed. The Hoosiers couldn't hang on as they dropped the Big Ten Quarterfinal contest, 3-1. Indiana has been to the tournament three other time in the last 12 years, 2016, 2013, and 2007, including a trip to the semifinals in 2013.
• Sunday's matchup will be the first time that the two teams have clashed in the Big Ten Tournament.
LAST TIME OUT
• On Wednesday Indiana wrapped their 2019 regular season with a road game at Michigan State. Needing a win or tie to get into the Big Ten Tournament, the Hoosiers were able to knock off the Spartans thanks to a game winning goal by Avery Lockwood in the 74th minute. Meghan Scott earned the assist as she took the corner that found Lockwood.
SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS
• Rutgers posted an 8-2-1 Big Ten record to earn the No. 2 seed in the tournament. They ended conference play on a four-game win streak with wins over Purdue, IU, Michigan, and Michigan State. On a national scale, the Scarlet Knights are ranked No. 16 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.
• Amirah Ali leads the Scarlet Knights with eight goals and four assists for 20 points. Goalkeeper, Megan McClelland has proved her strength between the pipes as she has started and played in all 17 games this season. She has a record 12-2-2 with 75 saves.
• The Hoosiers and Scarlet Knights are familiar with one another in 2019 as they played just two weeks ago in Piscataway, N.J. on Oct. 20. Indiana and Rutgers couldn't find a winner in the first 90 minutes, but the Hoosiers would let up a heart-breaking goal in the 94th minute as Rutgers took the win.
THREE EARN CONFERENCE HONORS
• Allison Jorden, Avery Lockwood, and Hanna Nemeth earned conference honors on Thursday afternoon. Jorden picked up a spot on the All-Big Ten Second Team for her efforts on the backline this season. Freshman, Lockwood was tabbed to the All-Freshman Team. Nemeth was named a Sportsmanship Award Honoree.
NONCONFERENCE WRAPUP
• The Hoosiers ended non-conference play on a three-game win streak. The carry a 4-3 record that includes wins over UIC, Morehead State, UT Martin, and Kentucky.
• Of Indiana's seven non-conference games on the schedule, just two were played home (UIC and Morehead State).
• Indiana's non-conference road slate included three different states - North Carolina, Kentucky and Tennessee.
IMMEDIATE IMPACT
• Four freshmen have earned starts so far this season – Alaina Kalin, Avery Lockwood, Bria Telemaque and Jaimie Tottleben. In addition, sophomore transfer Oliwia Wos has also started each of the first five contests.
• Lockwood and Kalin each scored their first career goals on Sunday. Kalin added her first career assist, as did freshman Jaimie Tottleben and sophomores Madeline Carlson and Megan Wampler.

• Indiana has shut out nine opponents this season. The Hoosiers have kept UIC, Morhead State, Kentucky, Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio State, Maryland, and Michigan State all scoreless. This is tied for the most shutouts in a single season. The last time Indiana has held nine teams scoreless was in 2013.
• The Hoosiers have shutout six Big Ten opponents-- Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio State, Maryland, and Michigan State. This is the most conference shutouts since 1999 when they had five.
• After a shutout against Ohio State on Oct. 13, junior goalkeeper Bethany Kopel became the program's all-time shutouts leader with 16 in her career. In addition, her 228 saves are tied for second all-time at Indiana, while her 18 victories tie for fifth.
• Freshman Avery Lockwood was named to Top Drawers Soccer's Freshmen Top 100 on Oct. 14. Lockwood checked in at 43rd on the list. In her freshman campaign, she leads the Indiana offense with four goals, two assists, and 10 points.
• Davidson earned the title of team captain for the season.
