
Hoosiers Pick Up Second and Eighth at Big Ten Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On a sunny day on the campus of Ohio State University, Indiana Cross Country competed in the 2019 Big Ten Cross Country Championships. The men's team came up just short to take second place in the team race with 70 points while in the women's race, the Hoosiers placed eighth with 177 points.
The Wisconsin Badgers picked up the team title and the individual on the men's side while Michigan State won the women's team championships and Alicia Monson of Wisconsin won the individual medal.
Running simultaneously throughout the entire race, Ben Veatch and Kyle Mau finished fourth and sixth respectively. Veatch clocked a time of 24:03.1 while Mau crossed in a time of 24:04.3. Having a strong day, Arjun Jha placed 12th with a time of 24:21.1. Bryce Millar's best performance came of the season came at the right time as he crossed the finish line 19th and nabbed a time of 24:27.6. Dustin Horter (24:45.7) notched 29th while Reese Jordan (24:47.8) finished two spots later in 31st. Cooper Williams placed 44th overall with a time of 24:56.5. Matthew Schadler and Jake Gebhardt raced in their first conference meet of their career on Sunday afternoon. Schadler grabbed a time of 25:19.0 to place 56th before Gebhardt would cross 60th in a time of 25:15.8 to round the nine Hoosiers competing.
On the women's side, Bailey Hertenstein had an impressive performance by placing second overall in a talented women's field. The sophomore clocked a time of 20:13.2. Sarah Schmitt ran her first Big Ten Championships race where she placed 12th in a time of 20:37.2. Jenna Barker and Abby Green finished two spots apart. Barker clocked a time of 21:21.7 for 51st and Green notched a time of 21:24.7 to place 53rd. Kelsey Harris raced to a 71st place finish with a tie of 21:54.1. Three Hoosiers placed one after the other, Abi Little (21:58.5), Mikaela Ramirez (22:01.7), and Grace Walther (22:06.2) finished in 75th, 76th, and 77th, respectively. Rounding out the field, Maddie Dalton placed 111th for a time of 23:18.1.
Mau, Veatch, and Hertenstein earned All-Big Ten First Team accolades for their top seven efforts on Sunday afternoon. Jha and Schmitt were named to the All-Big Ten Second team.
Up next, the Hoosiers will travel to Madison, Wisc. for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional. The regional will be ran on Friday, Nov. 15 with the women's 6k race slated for 1p EST followed by the men's 10k race at 2p EST.
